About the Role

The SCM Manager – Supplier Localization & Development will be responsible for developing robust local supplier networks to support manufacturing operations. The role demands strong technical knowledge, commercial acumen, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. The selected candidate will work closely with purchasing, engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure cost-effective, reliable, and compliant supply of materials and components.

This position is ideal for professionals who enjoy end-to-end supplier management, from identification and evaluation to capability enhancement and performance monitoring. Experience with automotive systems, IATF standards, and new supplier onboarding is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

The major responsibilities of this position include:

• Driving localization of imported parts, raw materials, and components through identification and development of capable domestic suppliers
• Independently identifying, auditing, evaluating, and onboarding new suppliers while ensuring APQP, PPAP, and SOP readiness
• Strengthening and upgrading existing suppliers in the areas of cost, quality, capacity, and delivery performance
• Leading cost-reduction initiatives through localization, VA/VE projects, alternate sourcing strategies, and effective commercial negotiations
• Carrying out detailed product costing, landed cost and total life-cycle cost analysis, and market benchmarking
• Developing and implementing pricing strategies, including index-linked pricing and scale-based price advantages
• Monitoring supplier performance through KPIs such as PPM, OTIF, delivery adherence, cost reduction, and responsiveness
• Managing inventory optimization, material planning, and working capital efficiency
• Streamlining inbound and outbound logistics to improve cost efficiency and reduce lead times
• Close coordination with Engineering, Quality, Purchase, Production, and Customer teams for smooth program launches and ongoing supply continuity
• Ensuring strict adherence to IATF 16949 requirements and customer-specific standards
• This role requires both strategic mindset and hands-on execution capability.

Qualifications and Experience Required

To be successful in this role, the candidate should meet the following requirements:

• B.E or B.Tech in Mechanical, Industrial, or Production Engineering
• 10 to 15 years of experience in Supply Chain Management or Supplier Development
• Strong exposure to automotive Tier-1 or engineering manufacturing companies
• Proven experience in supplier localization, cost analysis, negotiations, logistics management, and supplier performance improvement
• Working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems
• Experience in handling PPAP, APQP, and new product launch processes will be highly beneficial

Candidates who have worked on import substitution, Indian vendor capability enhancement, and greenfield supplier development projects will be preferred.
