Role Overview: What Does a Trainee Engineer – Production Do?

The Trainee Engineer will support the production team in day-to-day operations as well as long-term improvement activities. The position involves learning, monitoring, analyzing, and supporting various manufacturing processes to ensure smooth production and high-quality output.

The responsibilities are divided into Strategic and Operational areas.

Strategic Responsibilities

These responsibilities focus on learning and improving the overall production system:

1. Analyse Existing Processes

Understand current workflows, identify gaps, and suggest improvements.

2. Support Continuous Improvement Initiatives (Kaizen / Lean Systems)

Assist in waste elimination, productivity improvement, and quality enhancements.

3. Ensure Quality Standards

Learn and follow the company’s strict quality parameters for all production activities.

4. Adhere to Safety Regulations

Maintain safety protocols and ensure compliance across shop-floor operations.

5. Learn New Technologies

Stay updated with production systems, digital tools, automation, and industry trends.

Operational Responsibilities

The Trainee Engineer will be deeply involved in daily production activities, including reporting, monitoring, and coordination.

1. Daily Production Quality Monitoring

Check production output and ensure quality levels are met.

2. Inventory Control

Manage in-process inventory and finished goods to maintain smooth operations.

3. Production Planning

Assist in preparing daily and weekly production plans.

4. Shop-Floor Monitoring

Oversee housekeeping, material storage, discipline, work start/end timings, and break schedules.

5. Full Production Line Activities

Monitor manpower, track component drop-age, order completion ratios, and efficiency metrics.

6. Data Collection

Collect and compile data for the daily production report.

7. Order Completion

Ensure orders are completed on time as per customer requirement.

8. Maintain Minimum Stock Levels

Avoid stockouts through proper planning and coordination.

9. Rework & Rejection Control

Monitor in-process rework, reduce rejection levels, and support corrective actions.

10. SAP Entries

Perform daily confirmation of finished goods in SAP.

11. SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) Compliance

Ensure each workstation follows the updated SOP.

12. Dispatch Activities

Coordinate dispatch and ensure correct and timely shipment to customers.

13. Backlog Monitoring

Track pending orders and ensure timely completion to avoid delays.
