Top Technical Interview Questions & Answers
1️⃣ What is the difference between Injection Molding and Compression Molding?
Answer: Injection molding pushes heated rubber into a mold under high pressure, suitable for high-volume and complex shapes. Compression molding places preheated rubber into an open mold, compressed by a press, ideal for large or simpler parts.
2️⃣ What is the role of curing in rubber molding?
Answer: Curing cross-links rubber molecules, improving elasticity, flexibility, and strength. It finalizes the product properties and ensures dimensional stability.
3️⃣ What factors affect molding cycle time?
Answer: Mold temperature, pressure, curing time, part thickness, and material composition are key contributors.
4️⃣ What is cryogenic deflashing?
Answer: A process where molded parts are cooled using liquid nitrogen to make flash brittle and easy to remove using tumbling or blasting.
5️⃣ How do you reduce rejection rates in production?
Answer: By identifying root causes, controlling machine parameters, monitoring SPC charts, improving mold maintenance, and operator training.
6️⃣ What causes short shot defect?
Answer: Insufficient injection pressure, low melt temperature, blockages, or poor venting.
7️⃣ How do you handle air traps in molded parts?
Answer: By improving venting, adjusting temperature, pressure, and mold flow path.
8️⃣ Why do rubber parts shrink after molding?
Answer: Due to elastic recovery and cooling contraction; design allowances must compensate.
9️⃣ What is your approach to solve high scrap issues?
Answer: Conduct RCA using 5 Why or Fishbone, review parameters, operator processes, and tooling defects, implement corrective & preventive actions.
🔟 What is the importance of Mold Maintenance?
Answer: It ensures consistent product quality, reduces downtime, prevents flash and dimensional issues, and increases mold life.
Process & Production Management Questions
1️⃣1️⃣ How do you plan manpower during shift operations?
Answer: Based on production load, machine count, operator skill level, and critical activity timelines.
1️⃣2️⃣ What KPIs do you track as Production Engineer?
Answer: Productivity, scrap %, cycle time, OEE, downtime, order fulfillment, and rejection levels.
1️⃣3️⃣ What is OEE and how do you improve it?
Answer: Overall Equipment Effectiveness. Improve by reducing downtime, optimizing speed, and enhancing quality output.
1️⃣4️⃣ How do you manage shift handover?
