Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the most recognized and trusted passenger vehicle brand and a pioneer in the Indian automotive ecosystem, is inviting ambitious and technically sound professionals for the role of Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager – Buyer (SCM) in the domain of Body, Sheet Metal, Forging, Casting, Fasteners, Standard Parts & Proprietary Components. This is a significant opportunity for early-to-mid-career engineers who want to develop a strong footprint in sourcing, procurement, supplier management, product development, and value engineering for one of India’s most technologically progressive auto OEMs.
As the automotive sector rapidly transforms with a strong push toward cost efficiency, global sourcing, sustainability, weight reduction, and localization, Buyer SCM roles are becoming central to organizational success. The Buyer SCM at Maruti Suzuki is expected to build strategic supplier relationships, drive procurement excellence, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to create robust, cost-effective, quality-driven supply chains.
This position is ideal for professionals having exposure to manufacturing technologies such as Sheet Metal Pressings, Body Weld, Forging, Casting, Fasteners, Standard Parts, and Vehicle Proprietary Components, along with hands-on experience in Zero Based Costing (ZBC), Quote Evaluation, VAVE, Yield Improvement, technical documentation, and supplier negotiation.
About the Role – Buyer SCM (AM/DM)
The AM/DM Buyer – SCM will play a critical part in transforming supplier capabilities, evaluating procurement proposals, improving cost structures, and supporting new model development and localization strategies. The role demands deep understanding of manufacturing technologies, quality standards, commercial decision-making, and supplier engagement.
The selected candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional internal teams including Engineering, New Product Development, Design, Quality Assurance, and Production, alongside external partners like suppliers, OEM stakeholders, sourcing agencies, and tool makers.
The core mission is to build a competitive supply chain that ensures timely deliveries, high-quality components, lower total cost of ownership, and enhanced product reliability – aligning with Maruti’s strategic vision to maintain leadership in the Indian automotive industry.
Key Responsibilities
1️⃣ Supplier Management & Development
Evaluate, identify, and onboard suppliers for sheet metal components, welded assemblies, standard fasteners, forging parts, vehicle proprietary and casting components.
Build strong relationships with diversified suppliers across India and global markets.
Conduct supplier audits, capability assessments, capacity checks, and sustainability evaluations.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supplier delivery, quality, and cost performance.
Ensure suppliers meet compliance, safety, certification, and statutory requirements.
2️⃣ Procurement Strategy, Costing & Negotiation
Deploy Zero Based Costing (ZBC) to estimate tooling cost, material cost, and process cost based on engineering drawings and process parameters.
Conduct Quote Analysis to compare multiple suppliers, value propositions, lead time, logistics, and costing insights.
Strong negotiation skills to finalize commercial terms, yearly rate agreements, cost breakdowns, and long-term contracts.
Evaluate logistics cost, packaging cost, scrap rates, variable and fixed cost allocation, and benchmark part costing with industry references.
Implement Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) and yield improvement methods to achieve cost reduction without impacting product safety, durability, and performance.
3️⃣ Technical & Engineering Collaboration
Ability to interpret and review technical documents, GD&T, manufacturing tolerances, engineering drawings, quality standards, and design specifications.
Work jointly with process engineers, tooling manufacturers, and design engineers to improve manufacturability (DFM) and reduce rejections and process waste.
Support new product development launches and proto builds by coordinating tool design, sampling, and pilot production.
4️⃣ Tooling & Manufacturing Cost Estimation
Knowledge of tooling design and cost structure for forging dies, moulds, sheet metal dies, standard tools, jigs and fixtures.
Understand part life-cycle costing including consumables, refurbishment costs, wear & tear, heat-treatment requirement, tolerances and machining allowance.
5️⃣ Data, Documentation & IT Tools
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), reporting dashboards, cost evaluation templates, and project tracking tools.
Ability to prepare RFQs, technical-comparison sheets, executive reports, and management presentations.
6️⃣ Travel & Field Engagement
Site visits may be required to suppliers and production partners based on work requirements for audits, sampling, development approvals, cost reviews, or negotiations.
